10 Easy Rules to Younger, Glowing Skin in The New Year

Everyone wants younger, glowing skin and seems to be trying all sorts of complex things to try and get it. Here are a few simple to follow tips and tricks that will help you achieve that goal in the New Year.

1. Hydrate Yourself

Too many of us get caught up in our routines throughout the day and we tend to forget to drink the optimum amount of water. At least 6-8 glasses of water per day should be the target to help your skin get a natural glow and keep it clear. The thinking behind this is quite simple. Water helps remove the toxins that make our skin look dull and lifeless. It also helps to ensure that the cell turnover rate is high so that the old cells are quickly replaced by newer ones. 2. Exercise Regularly

One of the best things that you can do for your skin is to work out regularly. It could be a cardio focused workout like a run or just some yoga. The benefits to your skin are immense. Exercise also helps you get the blood flow running which increases the amount of oxygen available to your skin cells. This is a direct way to fight free radical damage that has been associated with the many signs of aging in the body.

3. Use Sunscreen regularly

It is essential to limit the amount of damage your skin is subjected to on a daily basis. Now, some people have a misconception that if their daily routine does not require too much of venturing outside, or if they live in a colder climate then wearing sunscreen is not necessary. Using a sun screen with a high SPF is an absolute must regardless of whether you’re indoors or it’s below 50 degrees as UV rays can cause skin damage even through office windows and in the cold. 4. Be a Clean freak

Make sure that everything that you bring in contact with your skin is clean. For example, the tools that you use to apply make-up should be absolutely clean and even replaced if they start looking worn out. You should always remove your makeup before you go to bed and wash your pillowcases regularly. Dirt and micro-organisms that can accumulate on your skin which will block your pores and cause acne breakouts. It all starts with a good face washing routine and any one of these products will completely clean your skin and leave it feeling refreshed!

5. Eat well

Having the right vitamins and nutrients in your diet is another simple thing that you can do to help your skin glow. There is enough scientific research to show that a balanced diet can make a world of difference to the skin. Include fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet and keep the junk food to a minimum.

Omega-3 fatty acid supplementation is also recommended if you are not a regular fish eater as it has proven effects against free radical damage.

6. See Your Dermatologist

No one is better equipped or trained to take care of your skin than your dermatologist. There can be certain systemic conditions like hormonal imbalances that could be affecting your skin adversely. The path to younger skin may also require more advanced options like laser treatment or micro-dermabrasion which your dermatologist can perform.

7. Quit Smoking

Tobacco has been linked with lung cancer to Periodontitis and everything in between so why are you still smoking it? All your efforts to rid the body and skin of toxins will be undermined by smoking. The cells of the skin are exposed to unwanted heat and tobacco residue which increase the errors in skin cell production, adversely damage the micro circulation and lead to free radical damage.

8. Avoid Stress

Not an easy thing to achieve but one that affects every aspect of our lives. Our body reacts to stress by releasing the hormone cortisol in our body. This hormone causes acne breakouts, collagen breakdown (which is directly responsible for wrinkles and lines on the face) as well as disturbed sleep. Several ways I like to avoid stress if by taking a yoga class, meditation or a bubble bath.

9. Clean Your Tools

Beauty tools ( i.e. makeup brushes, tweezers, eyelash curlers, loofahs, etc.) can become breeding grounds for bacteria and dirt. If you don’t clean your tools often or at all, it can lead to breakouts and clogged pores. You should clean your makeup brushes every 2 weeks with water and a mild soap, make sure to wash your loofah out thoroughly and let it hang dry (toss after a month), replace razors weekly or bi-weekly, and disinfect your other beauty tools with alcohol.

10. Wear Less Makeup

Wear more makeup-free days throughout the year. Letting your skin breathe at least once a week can be amazing for your skin. When you do wear foundation, try a lighter base like a BB or CC cream.
