How to Feel Your Best During The Holidays

Doing the usuals like getting a good night’s sleep, working out, and eating healthy are all things that can easily fall to the wayside because of the constant go go go of the holidays. Taking care of yourself is all about balance so you can feel and be your best.

Below are a few things I do to make the most of the season.

Stay Active

Living a balanced lifestyle during the holiday season doesn’t have to be stressful. For me, I take care of myself by staying active and eating right while indulging a bit. This past Thanksgiving, I almost put myself into a #foodcoma but I felt less guilty about it because I made sure to get a good workout in that morning. I even made myself a green smoothie to start the day with something light and wholesome.

For workout ideas when you’re visiting relatives, try these:

  • Go for a run around the neighborhood or a nearby park,
  • Run up the stairs
  • Go to a local gym and buy a guest pass
  • Look for exercise videos on Youtube
  • Play family football in the backyard
  • Help with cleaning around the house

Go Ahead and Indulge

Don’t be afraid to indulge a bit. It’s the holidays so give yourself permission to eat a little more! You can get away with munching on a few holidays cookies or a slice of your favorite pie. Anytime I go to a holiday party or visiting family, I know I’m going to eat a little bit more and that’s it! I’m not going to feel guilty or stress out over it.

Get Plenty of Sleep

If you so happen to overindulge with the sweets, at least have a nice, comfortable space to sleep it off.  It’s important to get a good night’s sleep during the busiest time of the year because you’ll feel good, healthier, and more productive. I just set up my new mattress from Sleep Innovations and I feel well-rested every time I wake up. This is my first time using this brand and it’s amazing! Every year, my family donates non-perishable food cans to our local church to help the less fortunate. Donating items like cranberry sauce or canned yams can help make sure a family struggling to put food on the table can still enjoy some of their favorite holiday meals. Everyone should try and give back to people in need this holiday season. Trust me, you’ll feel good doing it.

  1. At age 60 I lost the 35 pounds I’d been carrying for 25 years. I started doing Zumba dance, yoga, weight training, hiking, biking and a bit of running. I grew out my short fuzzy hair and now I seem to be getting younger than older. I try to get out and have more fun instead of taking care of everyone else but myself.   2. I try and stay active by kayaking and hiking the whole family and friends join in. We also eat a healthy diet it’s all about balance it’s ok to have a cheat day.

  3. @SleepInnov #SIHolidayBest I am at my best when I can escape winter by vacationing at the beach! When we are not lucky enough to do that…my husband and I will spend time riding our snowmobiles.
