A Whiskey Flavored Cocktail You’ll Love
Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Glenlivet but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.
When I used to think of whiskey, I imagined an older, high-maintenance gentleman inside of a private club, sitting on a reclining chair with a glass of whiskey in one hand and a cigar in the other. For decades, that was the perception that’s been floating around about how you were meant to drink the stuff, along with many other things. That all changed for me when I discovered The Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve.
The Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve
What I love most about The Glenlivet as a drink is how they are challenging the assumption of how you can drink scotch whiskey, particularly The Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve. As a millennial and modern entrepreneur, I’ve faced many challenges starting a new business. There has always been this assumption that things have to be done a certain way to be successful. You must have an office, an onsite staff, get funding and etc. Not only did these restrictions do little to help me, it also did everything to hamper my efforts.
My blogging business has been successful because I have access to tools that makes things so much smoother. With a bit of creativity and drive, bloggers like myself are able to break through old barriers of starting a business. By challenging assumptions, young adults now feel that entrepreneurship is a path for them just like people from all different backgrounds: women, millennials, minorities, entrepreneurs, artists, and dreamers alike are enjoying whiskey.
The Packhorse Cocktail
With my new found love for whiskey, I wanted to share with you an easy cocktail that only takes a few minutes to make. The Packhorse cocktail is a Scottish twist on the classic moscow mule. I love a good moscow mule too so I decided to try this recipe and I’m so glad I did. The Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve whiskey already has a creamy sweetness to it with complex fruity tones. Whiskey and ginger beer are an amazing combination and I added simple syrup to sweeten it up just a little more. I garnished with lemon and mint so I can enjoy the multitude of aromas with every sip.
Ingredients
- 1.5 oz. The Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve
- .75 oz. Simple syrup
- 6 oz. Ginger beer
- Garnish: Fresh mint sprigs
Instructions
Step 1. Combine The Glenlivet Finder’s Reserve, ginger beer and simple syrup (see how-to below) with ice in a highball glass.
Step 2. Garnish with a sliced lemon and a mint sprig. Enjoy!
How to Make Simple Syrup
What’s great about making simple syrup is that you only need two ingredients: sugar and water.
Step 1. Pour equal parts water and sugar in a saucepan. For this recipe, add 1/4 cup of sugar and 1/4 cup of water (there will be excess which you can save for later).
Step 2. Heat the ingredients until dissolved.
Step 3. Stir it and place the saucepan over medium heat.
Step 4. Once the edges start to simmer, the syrup should be clear. Remove from heat.
Step 5. Allow it to cool then add to the drink. Save the remaining simple syrup in an airtight container and leave in the fridge until you’re ready to use it again.
