11 Summer Beauty Hacks Every Woman Should Know
The sweltering heat has been crazy for the past few weeks here in Los Angeles, but I’m not letting the sun mess with my beauty game. In fact, the best advice I can give to you for your summer beauty routine is to simplify it, yet still leave the house feeling calm and well put-together.
Today, I’m sharing my favorite summer beauty hacks to keep you looking cool and polished, no matter how hot it gets.
1. When your dry shampoo is empty…
Grab the baby powder. This fresh-smelling powder isn’t just for the little ones. Just sprinkle it on your roots, brush it through, and that’s it! A great hack that definitely comes in handy when you’ve gone through your favorite dry shampoo.
2. To keep your pedicure looking fresh…
Always have a bottle of clear top coat at hand for touch ups throughout the day. Spending time at the beach after getting a pedicure can leave your nails looking dull thanks to the sand. Simply apply a new layer of top coat polish post-beach and then….baam! Your nails are fresh and new again.
3. Before jumping in the pool…
Apply waterproof mascara. When summer approaches, I always make sure to buy my favorite brand of mascara in a waterproof formula. Gotta avoid those embarrassing raccoon eyes after a swim.
4. To prevent sunburnt lips…
Always carry a lip balm with SPF inside your bag and apply it on your lips before leaving the house. We often times forget our lips need sun protection too. My favorite lip balm is from Nivea as it goes on clear but there are several brands out there like Kiehl’s and Fresh that carries SPF lip balms with a slight tint if you want a bit of color.
5. When you’ve recently colored your hair…
Protect it with a leave-in-conditioner. Color, strength, and moisture all get lost much faster when it has no protection. Apply a leave-in-conditioner like this one or this one (for us natural gals) before and after you’ve entered the water to keep your strands soft. If you prefer to go the DIY route, then do an apple cider vinegar rinse before you go outside to help lock in the color.
6. When having too much fun in the sun…
Make aloe vera ice cubes using aloe vera gel mixed with a bit of water. Grab an ice cube tray and pour the mixture in it and place in the freezer for at least 2 hours. Once it’s frozen, take an ice cube and rub it over irritated or sunburned skin for the ultimate cooling and soothing effect.

7. When you need to tame your frizz…
Use a toothbrush. Spritzing a toothbrush with hairspray is a pro secret that’s been known for years. Just gently run the toothbrush along the hairline and part to smooth stray hairs back in place.
8. When you need to avoid makeup meltdown…
Prep with Milk of Magnesia. It’s a makeup trick I learned years ago from a friend. It works great as a primer for oily skin. What you do is apply it before foundation and after a moisturizer to maintain a smooth and matte complexion. This is one of my favorite summer beauty hacks!
9. To sweatproof your blowout…
Use a deodorant. When it’s super hot outside, I hate how my hair would stick to the back of my neck especially after a blowout and a flat iron. To prevent freshly-styled hair from sticking to your skin, swipe an antiperspirant on the back of your neck.
10. When you want quick and glowy cheeks…
Switch to a cream-based formula. On sweltering days, a powder blush can make your skin look cakey. Using a cream stick or liquid blush looks great on natural-looking or sun-kissed skin. Simply use your fingers to apply on the apples of your cheeks for that soft, dewy glow on your skin.
11. When you need more SPF…
Give your skin a little more sun protection by mixing a broad-spectrum face sunscreen with your foundation. I squeeze a bit of foundation on my hand, then squeeze sunscreen next to it and mix them together with a brush before applying to my face.
