Summer Beauty: How to Get The Barely There Makeup Look
Summer is a great time to go out and about but the heat it brings also presents a number of challenges. Makeup tends to melt under the scorching sun so women need to be extra careful about what they put on. It would be quite annoying to constantly have to fix your makeup throughout the day because it keeps melting in the heat and humidity. The trick I use is to choose products that gives me a natural, barely there makeup look. No heavy foundation, lipstick, or eyeshadow! I want to look my natural best this summer and you can too by following the tips below!
1. Correct Your Complexion
Start by perfecting your skin. Makeup blends more easily when you wash your face with a cleanser and exfoliate with a cloth.
2. Moisturize and Even Out Skin
The best way to moisturize and even out skin that has worked for me is a tinted lotion or a BB and CC Cream. I’m currently using BareMinerals Complexion Rescue which is the best of a BB, a CC, and a tinted moisturizer. I like it because it offers powerful hydration and unlike makeup, it’s not heavy. It gives me a dewy, sheer to medium coverage and most importantly, SPF 30 for added sun protection. A pea-size amount is all you need but you can layer for additional coverage.
3. Conceal Your Flaws
After applying a tinted moisturizer, you should then follow up with concealer to conceal any flaws. For under eye bags or dark circles use a liquid concealer and pat with fingers to blend. For blemishes, dab and blend and build up coverage in thin layers. If you’re skin gets to shiny, you can use an oil-absorbing powder.
4. Get a Gorgeous Glow
To get that perfect lit-from-within dewy glow, I start with Benefit Benetint Lip & Cheek Stain. I’ve learned from multiple testing, that warm peaches and pinks gives skin a natural, subtle flush so I apply a small amount on the apples of my cheeks. Next, I highlight with NARS The Multiple. It’s a versatile product that has a very velvety and transparent texture that makes you look great in under 3 minutes. I use NARS The Multiple in South Beach mainly as a highlighter but it can also be used to add color to the eyes, lips and cheeks. When highlighting, there are 4 areas to focus on: the cheekbones, the temple, the eyes, and the Cupid’s bow.
When applying to your cheekbones, blend it on the highest point of your cheekbones and up towards your temple, especially when contouring. I sometimes like to apply it to the bridge of my nose but not all the way to the tip otherwise I’ll look shiny instead of contoured.
When applying to eyes, blend it underneath the eyebrow on the brow bone and into the inner crease.
Before applying lip color, blend on cupid’s bow and underneath the bottom lip. I sometimes like to apply a small amount on the lips, and once I apply my lip color, a touch of highlighter will show through.
5. Eyes and Lip Color
Since I’m going for a natural, minimal makeup look, I skip the mascara and curl my lashes instead. I also make sure to groom my eyebrows with a brow gel. I will finish the look by adding lip color. Since lipstick is a bit heavy for summer use, I use a glossy lip stain instead. First I dab a small amount of Benefit Cosmetics Benetint Lip & Cheek Stain on the lips and then a lip balm like Rosebud Salve for a good shine without the sticky feel.
